Google Urban Sketchers Map

Hi all!  Feel free to add your location to the new Urban Sketchers map Gabi created!  You can find it here: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=213045706426173609546.0004cd150dcd00d371328&msa=0

That way if you're traveling you may be able to hook up with other sketchers.

You click "Edit," at upper left, then click on the little upside down teardrop.  A window opens where you type your info...join us!

Here's how to make a live link of your URLs, above...I didn't, but managed to find a way to edit it!

  1. I'd sure like to know the reason for the low density of sketchers from Florida to Montana?

  2. Me too, John! That's why I started our group, though, because this area was woefully under-represented. So have you added yourself to the map?

  3. Yes, but after much thought. I keep hearing war stories of "being out there" on the web and being exposed to the darker human element. In the end, though, I haven't found sketchers to be violent. Of course I haven't tried to steal there favorite fountain pen, either.

    1. *Snort!* I haven't had much problem with things like this...really, more in discussion groups where people tend to say more personal things. And that, given that I've been on the WWW since the late 80s, is pretty minimal. I think you're safe.

I think a lot of people may not really understand what urban sketching IS...they live in a small town rather than a big city, so they don't think their work fits. Really, I believe it DOES. We don't really want a lot of landscapes called urban sketching, but small towns, businesses, cafes, etc., of course!

    2. That is EXACTLY what kept me from taking Gabi up on his invitation to join the original Urban Sketchers. I thought a small town did not count, since so many were sketching big-city stuff like subways, street cars, or buses. Been kicking myself for that ever since.

    3. So frustrating! And now there are so many people who want to be part of the main blog there's a whole complex process and a bit waiting list even to be considered. Sorry girl!

  4. Kate, I added myself to the map via the above link, and figured out how to make my links "live". But when I click to view the global map on Urban Sketchers page, my location shows up but no info. Did I do something wrong?

    1. Shoot, I don't even see your little marker! Gabi said something about Google Maps only showing so many, but I thought he'd figured out a workaround. Let me check...

    2. I saw my marker but it was empty when I clicked on it. However, I just checked again this morning from my iPod and both marker and info are there. I guess it just takes a bit of time to appear?
