The Reading Railroad

Having spent the last few weeks unpacking and adjusting to our new condo home in Rockford, Michigan, I finally got out tonight, post dinner, and did this sketch of the Reading Book Store. The store is located in downtown Rockford and is a unique housing of books for sale that occupy the old building, an attached equally old passenger car, and a weathered old caboose. To say the least the store is interesting and adds flavor to the downtown area. So here's the sketch...it was nice to be out of the house and back working with pen in hand.

  1. I love finds like this, Dave, great job! It's so quirky...you really captured that feeling. (Used to be a couple of old RR cars like this used as barns, around here...cool!)

    1. Kate thanks. We're really enjoying Rockford. It's a small town with lots of interesting views and places to sketch. it's also only 14 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, MI which offers a very robust urban environment.

    1. The store is a neat place to wander through. I'm guessing the tracks where the cars sit is part of a rail line spur that ran into town years ago.

  3. I'm going through old photos and sighing over the loss of our Milwaukee Depot years ago...that could have been SUCH a great re-used building.
