It was a blustery late afternoon at Greenwood Cemetery. Unusual for Halloween, the leaves, still in their peek autumn color, have barely begun to fall. Today, I was prompted by Urban Sketchers weekly theme: cemeteries. Not unusual is that this and the other times I've drawn there, I've never seen another human.
But there are always crows:
And from the cemetery bluff, looking across the Cedar River and its watershed to the vast distance of farmland, is one of the best views in town.
You really captured the feel of the season!
ReplyDeleteI’m a color junkie: autumn is my favorite season. Thanks, Barbara.
DeleteNice work for the scary season! Same here with fall colors. We expected them to be gone when we got back from down south but there's still a lot of color.
ReplyDeleteUsually by Halloween the leaves are off the trees. Not this year--they're hanging on and in their full color! Love it. Winter will still be too long in my estimation. Thanks for commenting, Dave, and continuing to post your lovely drawings.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful, Marcia...what beautiful cemeteries you have. One I know of in Independence, where I was born, has the most glorious maples...
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I love about this and many other urban cemeteries is the trees--large mature, usually well tended, and unencumbered by utility wires. Maples!--Sounds divine! Greenwood is predominated by white oaks.
