I'm not Jeanette, but the shuttlecocks are huge sculptures on the lawn of the Nelson. They were very controversial when installed, adding a bit of whimsy--they turn the huge, elegant building into the net, with shuttlecocks on the front and back lawn! You either love them or hate them, and I'm in the love crowd.
I haven't seen the museum's shuttlecock sculptures, but I'm with you, Kate. I think outsize whimsey is a needed and fitting counterbalance for our institutions of art and culture.
I thought some of us had sketched them too, in situ...pretty sure Steve Penberthy has, and I know I have, but we must not have tagged them, I couldn't find them here...

Nice work. My eyes are drawn to this type of detail, too. Just don't see this type of finish work in todays Home Depot store.
