Sketch 'em while you can!
I'm really glad I sketched this cute little building when I did, at our sketchcrawl a few months ago. Due to a BIG urban renewal project in our town, it's now a vacant lot! It looks like a war zone where it was, but there will be a new neighborhood built all down this street. We'll see if I feel like sketching THAT.

A new neighborhood all down this street? NO!!! I love the charm of this street the way it is. Sad.
ReplyDeleteActually, it's mostly on the street behind that, between where Betty lives (the big blue house) and where the drug rehab place used to be, but they've knocked down a few on Broadway itself. They're planning on Craftsman-style homes, so I'm trying to reserve judgement!
ReplyDeleteCraftsman-style is good -- that's probably what this apartment building was originally. (Similar to ours, though ours was only 4 apartments)
ReplyDeleteHope whatever they do blends well with Betty's gorgeous Victorian.
Me too! She's not been happy about all this, and I know the construction's going to be both noisy and dusty...hope it's worth it!
ReplyDeleteSketching as documentation is really important work. So often in our urban environments, buildings, trees disappear. Our sketched record of them become artifacts of bygone times. I’ve recorded things (valuable in my estimation) that end up being demolished. Always shocking. I look at your sketch and I see a ghost of a building.
