The Old Bedford Mill

This afternoon was a beautiful one to be outside. So I headed north of Battle Creek to sketch the old Bedford mill which is located in Bedford, Mi. The mill dates back to 1855. Grain hasn't been milled here for years. The mill's water wheel is gone but the stream that turned it still runs nearby. Most recently the building housed a small print shop operation but that closed a number of years ago. Sadly this is another historical building that now stands long abandoned.

    1. Barbara, thanks. It was a great afternoon to be out. The only downside, I was sitting on a side walk and had trucks and cars wizzing by about 6 feet away while I was working.

    1. Kate thanks...along with fall colors, guess I'm addicted to abandoned buildings. Anyhow, the old mill is really neat. Wish I could get inside but the place is in such bad shape you'd probably fall through the floor!

  4. Hello Dave. I live around the corner of the mill. I don't know a lot about it but I have gotten a close up look around there property. And your right about probably falling through the floor. Its a wonderful piece of history that needs to be preserved. But doesn't look like anybody really cares. I just wanted to thank you for coming up here and braving that busy road to draw the old Bedford mill. It is an amazing drawing.

  6. Unfortunately this was burned to the ground recently. The suspect was apprehended. What a shame - I don't understand such actions.
